In a successful work, a painter creates a purposeful path
for the viewer’s
eyes so all of a painting’s elements will
be discovered in a pleasing
order, with the focal point as the
“highlight” of the trip. Using both
narratives and diagrams placed alongside
each painting, this exhibition
demonstrates how artists control the
movement of a viewer’s eyes
through composition, color and value. To
demonstrate how the visual
path crosses genres, the gallery will be
divided in half, with abstract
works on one side and realistic works on
the other.
