"The Artist's View: Creative Landscape Painting in Oil or Pastel"

The Clearing - Ellison Bay, Wisconsin

August 15 - 21 2010  (course number coming as soon as catalog is complete)

This workshop is designed for novice and experienced painters who are interested in capturing the beauty of nature in the expressive mediums of oil or pastel. Bonnie will help students simplify the landscape by using a three part value system that takes the mystery away from creating a solid, lifelike painting.

Students will learn to see the relationships of color and light in nature. Her guided observations and frequent demonstrations will build each students confidence in painting “en plein air”. Bonnie will throw in “everything but the kitchen sink” to share her knowledge of painting fundamentals. Students will develop their own “tools of the trade”; including new skill in drawing, creative composition, color harmony, brushwork and self expression. Weather permitting participants will paint at a variety of scenic northern Door County locations. Studio days will be spent working from on-site sketches, photographs and memory. A sturdy, portable sketch box easel is needed for this class.

Materials: A supply list will be sent prior to the class. Feel free to contact Bonnie to discuss the workshop and your supplies. E-mail: paruchfamily@netzero.net.

The painter’s workshop:

For several seasons Bonnie has taught a self-guided studio workshop for intermediate and advanced painters. The goal of this much anticipated course is to provide participants with an opportunity to spend a full week focusing on their art and creative path. Many past students have used the week as an opportunity to finish challenging pieces or to concentrate on further developing their artist “voice”. The format of this workshop is very open. Each day begins with a” chalk talk” and related demonstration. Bonnie will help students explore the BIG Picture. Major topics covered include Value, Light, Color, Composition, Creative Imagery and A personal point of view. Ongoing individual and group critiques create a free flowing and positive atmosphere for growth and personal experimentation. New this session, Bonnie will invite students to participate in “Paint-on” demonstrations. These demonstrations will address common painting problems and their solution(s). As one student recently asked “show me the wow!” Part of this workshop is the exploration of WOW. Leave this workshop with the skills to take a painting from ordinary to extraordinary. All painting/drawing mediums are welcome. Bonnie’s demonstrations will be limited to oil or pastel.
